Large Family Certificate (Título de Familia Numerosa) — General Category for Child with Disability
Official recognition of large family status (familia numerosa) when the family unit has 2 children and at least one has a recognized disability degree equal to or greater than 33%. It unlocks tax deductions, transport discounts, and other large family benefits. IMPORTANT — two rules many families are unaware of: (1) With only 2 children, if one has a disability ≥33%, the family ALREADY qualifies as a large family (no third child required). (2) For calculating the CATEGORY (General or Special), each child with a disability ≥33% counts as TWO children — thus, a family with 4 children where 1 has a disability ≥33% is calculated as having 5, granting direct access to the SPECIAL category (greater benefits) without needing to meet the income criteria required for non-disability special large families.
Benefits
Recognition of large family status — General category if there are 2 children with at least 1 having a disability ≥33%, or automatic Special category if double counting the child with a disability raises the total countable children to 5 or more. Grants access to tax deductions, public transport discounts, reduced academic fees, and other benefits. If the disability is ≥65%, that child has no age limit to maintain the certificate.
